L’Histoire C’est Moi

A PERSONAL SOUVENIR

 

Personal histories translated into wearable patterns.

Each shawl begins with a personal story.
Through extensive conversations, I collect memories, photographs,
details, places, loved ones, and small fragments that hold emotional
significance.
 
From this material, I develop a visual language in which
personal history is transformed into patterns, structures, and layered compositions.
The images remain present, yet rarely recognizable to the outside world.
A loved one, parent, child, memory, or place becomes part of a larger composition —
hidden within the design, woven into rhythm, colour, and form.
 
In this way, intimacy and discretion exist side by side.
Every shawl is unique and created as a personal souvenir: a wearable artwork
that allows memories to remain close without revealing them literally.
 
Alongside private commissions, designs are also developed around houses,
families, cities, and communities. Recently, I designed a shawl
for the previous residents of our home in Carcaixent.

What began as repetition slowly evolved into the precision of a perfect handrolled hem.

SELECTED SHAWLS

For one of the most artistic,
but above all joyful and loving families,
this shawl was created for the lady of the house,
together with three pochettes — one for each man.

 

So that they may live on.
In memory of Moniek Toebosch
and because the final brief conversation
we shared circled around her credo:
“Unrecognizable as such, is that clear.”
